Create a Life to Love by Erin Zak

Anyone who knows me knows I always have something to say. Rarely am I ever rendered speechless. This book honestly rendered me completely speechless for almost a full hour. It is by far one of the best books I’ve ever read.

This book tells the story of three women from all three of their points of view. There’s Jackie, a lesbian romance writer, who gave up a baby for adoption when she was young. There’s Beth, the daughter Jackie gave up, who is now 16. And finally, Susan, who is Beth’s adoptive mother.

When I first started reading this book I felt like Beth was going to be a fairly insignificant side character, and the focus would be on the romance between Jackie and Susan. Boy, was I ever wrong. By the time I was finished with this book, I felt that Beth’s story was every bit as important as the romance between Susan and Jackie. In all honesty, more important because Beth is able to tell Susan and Jackie’s story from a totally different perspective. Additionally, Beth’s own coming of age story was amazing and so well written. The greatest thing about this book was every time I was sure I knew where this story was going, Zak took it in a different direction, and the ending was the best surprise of all.

I’ve been a fan of Erin Zak’s work since her very first book, Falling into Her. Each book she writes is better than the last, and this book is the best, yet. I will eagerly await the next offering from this talented writer. In the meantime, I’ll be reading this book again, and if you want to read a book that will give you hope, make you fall in love with the characters, and stick with you long after you’ve finished it, Create a Life to Love is the book for you.
