What was the book about:
Burn it down tells the story of Ash Hayes. Ash is a Detroit firefighter with a past full of abuse, neglect, and secrets. After suffering a serious loss, she is forced to confront her past and the demons that haunt her. At the same time, she meets Mia Thomas, a nurse who moves in across the street. Ash and Mia have an instant attraction, but both try to tread carefully because of Ash’s current situation.Featured Tropes:
Abuse, trauma, and healingBook Strengths:
This book has a lot of strengths. One major strength is how descriptive the story is during the active fire scenes. It really does feel like you are there. The other major strength is how well Ash’s character is written. You can’t help but feel the emotion associated with this character. Did I mention you need tissues?Character Chemistry:
The story is told from Ash’s point of view. Being privy to all her intimate thoughts easily made her my favourite character. Ash and Mia definitely have chemistry. The way they become smitten with each other almost instantly feels very real.Book weaknesses:
The only thing negative I can say about this book is that it is highly unlikely that someone with Ash’s past would not have experienced significant sexual abuse.Heat Rating: 🔥
While the characters had chemistry, you didn’t get to really experience it. This is the first book I have read by K. Aten. It will not be the last.Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
